Study on the efficacy of LITOVET

74 horses, all trotters, were included in a double-blind, placebo controlled trial. The horses were randomized in blocks of three of which two received LITOVET® and one placebo of similar taste and colour. Then the LITOVET® group, as well as the placebo group, were treated for three months.
Question of the study
Does LITOVET®, a herbal remedy made from Rosa Canina, act as an anti-inflammatory agent in horses exposed to strenuous exercise? A randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel, double-blinded study on the immune system of horses, their working capacity and behavior. K.Winther, J. Falk-Rønne, A. Kharazmi, A.V. Hansen, and E.W. Hansen. Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Frederiksberg Hospital, University of Copenhagen, The Horseclinic at Lunden, Charlottenlund, Copenhagen, Department of Clinical Microbiology, Rigshospitaltet, University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
Introduction and Aim
A standardised product, LITOZIN®, made from rose hip (Rosa Canina), has shown anti-inflammatory and pain reducing properties in humans. The present study aimed to test if LITOVET®, a version of LITOZIN® especially developed for horses, would affect the immune system, working capacity and behaviour of horses.
Delta Change in time to run 1000 meters

Delta change in time to run 1000 meters. Horses treated with LITOVET® or placebo. During LITOVET® treatment the horses improved their speed. (p<0,02)
Chemotaxis

Neutrophile leucocyte chemotaxis in horses before and after treatment with LITOVET®. Three months treatment with LITOVET® resulted in a significant reduction in chemotaxis.

Neutrophile leucocytes chemotaxis in horses before and after 3 months treatment with LITOVET® and again 3 months after withdrawal of therapy. LITOVET® resulted in a significant reduction in chemotaxis. 3 months after withdrawal this reduction was reduced by 50 percent.
Vitamin-C levels in horses

Vitamin-C levels in horses following intake of 25, 50 oder 100 g of LITOVET® per day. A significant increase in vitamin-C was observed in blood drawn from horses after 4 and 12 weeks.
Study on the efficacy of LITOPET

68 greyhounds were randomly allocated to either LITOPET® or placebo treatment for a three-month period. The animals were randomized in blocks of three with two dogs given LITOPET® 10 gram daily as a dry powder added to the food and one dog given the same amount of placebo powder with a similar taste, odour and colour.
Question of the study
A herbal remedy derived from a subspecies of Rosa Canina, improves the immune response, working capacity and well-being of dogs. A parallel, placebo controlled, double-blind, randomized study. A. Ragone, A. S. V. Hansen, P. Hansen, A. Kharazmi: Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Frederiksberg Hospital and K. Winther: Department of Clinical Microbiology, Rigshospitalet, University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
Introduction and Aim
LITOZIN®, a standardised product made of 100% rose hip (Rosa Canina), produced by Hyben Vital®, has shown anti-inflammatory and soothing properties in humans. The present study aimed to test whether the same powder might improve the immune response, working capacity and well-being of dogs.
Chemotaxis

In vitro neutrophil chemotaxis before and after the addition of LITOPET®. "LITOPET® strongly inhibits chemotaxis in neutrophils."
Leucocyte count

Influence of three month treatment with 10 g LITOPET® per day on leucocytes of Greyhounds. "3 month treatment resulted in a significant decline in total leucocyte count."
Fur quality

"Quality of the fur improved from 3 months LITOPET® treatment."
